The history of the van Gogh Museum

The nephew of Vincent van Gogh initially gave the artworks to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, until the Vincent van Gogh Foundation was founded in 1962. The impressive museum, dedicated to his works, is located on the Museumplein. The museum was designed in 1963 by Gerrit Rietveld. Unfortunately he died a year later. 1973 the building was opened. Over the years, it has been renovated, modernized and expanded. For example, the architect Kisho Kurokawa designed an exhibition wing of the museum. The last renovation was in 2015, when the impressive entrance area was opened to welcome the numerous visitors.
