The Nieuwe Maen, once a freight clipper, today a comfortable hotel ship, is the ideal place for fanatic sailors as well as for people who seek peace and quiet. You will sail from the lively harbour of Zierikzee, a medieval town on the Eastern Scheldt in the province of Zeeland.
Active participation or relaxation on the sun deck.
If you like, you can assist the skipper of the Nieuwe Maen in hoisting the sails or putting away the ropes, or you may take the helm for a while. And for fishermen there are rods available. Perhaps you can catch your own dinner? Or do you prefer to read a book on deck or sit in the sun with a drink? It is all possible.
Cosy saloon with wood stove and bar.
The cosy, light saloon has a sitting area with a wood stove and a bar. This ensures that it is comfortable and warm inside even on colder evenings. There you will find various party games, a TV, a DVD player with DVDs and a modest library. In the spacey galley a 6-burner hotel cooker with large oven and much refrigerating and freezing space ensure that cooking can also become a very sociable activity.
Staying the night on board the Nieuwe Maen.
The guest room area has two large showers and two flush toilets. The three two-person and three four-person cabins are provided with comfortable beds. There are reading lights, a 20 V wall outlet, a cupboard, hot and cold water, ventilation and central heating, separately controllable for each cabin.
History.
The sailing clipper Nieuwe Maen was built in 1891 in Zaltbommel for the transportation of bricks. Later the ship was used to carry wood. In the 1980s the Nieuwe Maen was refurbished as a charter ship for the first time, and in 2005 the clipper was completely renovated again. Today it is a comfortable ship that meets the latest requirements in comfort and safety, and moreover it has been re-rigged to its original configuration as a single mast clipper with gaff rigging, foresail and jib.
Departure.
Departure harbours Lelystad, Hoorn and Enkhuizen can all only be reserved from 1 May to mid September 2013. The Nieuwe Maen departs from Zierikzee during the rest of the year.
