The Old Bakery Museum

This bakery museum began as a temporary exhibition of bakery utensils and has grown into a medium-sized museum that attracts around 50,000 visitors annually.

History of the Old Bakery Museum

The baker Cees de Boer started his own small bakery in Wadway in 1930. His whole life he collected objects that were of interest to him. After his death in 1977 he left a large collection to his children. His daughter and her husband started an exhibition with these objects in the orphanage. In 1985 the exhibition was shown at Medemblik station and attracted 2000 visitors in its first year.

About the Old Bakery Museum

In the museum you will feel the atmosphere of the past, enhanced by the delicious scents of the bakery, as the old craft is still practised. There are also regular marzipan and chocolate workshops. During your visit, your mouth will be sure to water! The Old Bakery is therefore often referred to as the 'tastiest museum in the Netherlands'!
