Store Baelt

Step on board the breathtaking Store Baelt and enjoy an unforgettable cruise on the water. The Store Baelt guarantees you a real adventure, for both young and old. Would you prefer pure relaxation? Of course, this is also possible.

The interior: luxury and comfort

The Store Baelt is well known for its magnificent interior: the beautiful wood in combination with the dark benches and chairs exude comfort and luxury. It is a wonderful place to be. The exceptionally spacious and light cabins also contribute to the opulent look of the ship. To make it all even more beautiful it is even possible to relax in the on-board sauna. What more could you want?

Party? Move to the deck!

The spacious deck of the Store Baelt is ideally suited to large groups and fun parties, and there is enough space for a stage, a friendly bar with beer on tap and a professional audio installation. The bar is separate from the day accommodation and smoking is permitted here. In short: a perfect ship for a fun afternoon in the open air!

During the cruise

You will certainly not be bored on board the Store Baelt. Besides the various activities – such as the actual sailing, cruising on the rubber boat and the great many games – you can also have endless fun in the magnificent day quarters. Admire the beautiful wall painting or the attractive tables. These are made from Kauri wood that is at least 35,000 years old and feature inlaid chess boards and/or compasses! You can also find everything that you need to experience the technical side of sailing on board the Store Baelt. For example, a compass, GPS, binoculars and depth gauge are ready for you to use.

History

The Store Baelt was built as a motor coaster in 1928, and was initially called 'Drittura'. The Drittura primarily transported a great deal of cargo on the North and Baltic Seas. The, still at that time, Drittura was at sea when the Second World War broke out. She carried various cargoes for the Allies during the war and the ship participated in operation 'Neptune' in 1944. It helped to protect the beaches in Normandy against dive bombers on D-day. After the landings in Normandy she transported thousands of men and equipment from England to the front on the continent. When the Drittura was converted into a charter vessel in 1994 it was given its new name: Store Baelt. The current owner acquired the Store Baelt in 2003 and now sails this impressive ship on the Wadden Sea and the IJsselmeer.
