Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

The history of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam was founded by a group of citizens in 1874. This was founded by CP van Eeghen. He brought in money and his art collection. Initially, the collection was housed in the Rijksmuseum, before it was moved in 1895 in the museum designed by AW Weissman. In 2003, the Neo-Renaissance building was renovated. Until the reopening in 2012, parts were exhibited in other premises or in finished parts of the Stedelijk Museum.
