Urk

The striking fishing village of Urk is a former Zuiderzee island that was connected to the mainland in 1939. Residents, however, still feel like islanders and therefore say they live 'on Urk'. Fishing has always been the main source of income, which is why the old center was also built around the harbor. In the harbor, at the fish auction and at the shipyards, there is always plenty of activity (except on Sundays). If you move away from the harbor, you are immediately between the 'ginkies' - the quaint little streets and alleys with the typical houses of Urk. Even the great little shopping streets with their special shops are within easy walking distance.
