Pocket Museum Hendrikje

Museum of Bags and Purses

This museum is located in Amsterdam in a building of the Herengracht 573. The building is part of the "grachtengordel" world cultural heritage and the pocket collection of the museum is considered the largest pocket collection in the world.

History of the Museum of Bags and Purses

Hendrikje Ivo was a great collector of handbags and for 35 years she collected various bags. In 1996 she opened her first exhibition in her apartment in Amstelveen. Another ten years later, due to lack of space, she had to close her exhibition first, whereupon an anonymous donor allowed her to move to the current building, the Herengracht.
